Whatever size of order we supply commercial developers or small DIY projects with stone at prices comparable with leading suppliers of cast stone architectural products. Or with local stone at competitive rates for listed obligations. Standard products include stone pillars and columns, cantilevered stone staircases, window sills, heads/ lintels, platt bands, corner quoins and coping. However we specialise in the most affordable stone porticos and classical stone door surrounds for the higher end development. We also offer an install service with experienced stone masons who understand 2 and 3 mm joints between stone components. They understand handling and hoisting stone to avoid chips and errors. They also understand honing in after to perfect the finish of the portico / door/ window surround etc.

Manchester Period Conversion

McMilllan & Holder were invited to supply all of the architectural stone elements on this period development. The supply of buff sandstone components kept pace with the needs of the principle builder. Corner quoins, threshold stones, flat bands, window heads and a significant cornice, springers and pediment. A large Doric portico was supplied and installed by McMillan & Holder.  2 tonne blue granite columns with sandstone column bases, capitals and entablature.

Private Estate – Shropshire

McMillan & Holder were commissioned to assist in the completion of stone masonry work to a beautiful grand country house on the outskirts of Shrewsbury in Shropshire.
The house has a varied and interesting history. George Stuart prepared plans for Rowland Wingfield in 1780 for the remodelling of the hall in a severe Neo-classical style. The grounds were also re-styled in the contemporary fashion of the day. The hall was then demolished around 1957.
A new hall has since emerged combining the best of Georgian and Victorian styles. The building is complete with plinth course, portico entrances and door architrave surrounds, Ionic columns, window surrounds and string course, crowned with an elegant and substantial cornice and parapet blocking course.

Stafford Park

Built in 1818 as a mansion, this Georgian Grade ll listed home later was extended became a hospital.  At its peak it housed 1000 asylum patients and became an iconic building on the Stafford landscape.

Shropshire Homes, who have earned a significant reputation for the regeneration of historic sites into desirable living spaces, for 3 years transformed this once derelict ruin in to St George’s Mansions. A series of 2 and 3 bedroom apartments. It’s a celebration of the old Georgian legacy and the best of 21st century modern living and a testimonial to the diligence and commitment of Shropshire Homes.
McMillan & Holder were invited by Shropshire Homes to assist with this restoration and renovation. Where necessary we supplied stone to replace, the technical knowledge to retain, and the conservation skills to retore.
