Great Ness Barns

Great Ness Barns
An enchanting development of five historic barn conversions, nestled to the south of the renowned Nesscliffe Woods. Clean contemporary living merges with the character of traditional working farm buildings, centuries of history are preserved resulting in a unique and aspirational living environment.
Charters Property invited McMillan & Holder in 2021 to assist with the stone fabric during the barn conversions. Rebuilding stone walls dressed with the medieval Mel point technique, in heavy red ashlar blocks. Window and door stone details and a large red sandstone column to mention some of the highlights.
The buildings were lovingly used for centuries, with the friendly weathered brick and stone having many stories to tell from past generations. The charming and varied architecture has truly intriguing features and makes these barns quite special; from the full height carriage doors – restored and dated from 1881, to the colossal sandstone block walls and timber framing.
